Aging with Dignity Thanks to Helping Hands

Ivy in Chairlift.jpg

When Ivy came to us, at 95 years old she was no longer able to climb the stairs to her bedroom. Nightly, she had to physically drag herself up the stairs and crawl to her room. Imagine the hardships her body endured and the mental anguish as she sat at the bottom anticipating the grueling ascent as she ended her day and was ready to rest.

Emmanuel Lutheran Church contacted Jeff, our HRR Director, to find help for Ivy. His heart sank when he heard about her situation. Without hesitation, Jeff knew that we needed to help Ivy.

Rod, a member of the church, caught wind of Ivy’s story and also felt drawn to help. He scoured Craigslist for a chair lift and finally found one in Salina. Once the seller listened to Ivy’s situation, he agreed to lower the price by $150. Rod drove to pick it up early that following Saturday morning and the chair lift was installed the very next day. Thanks to our generous donors, Interfaith was able to provide funding for the project.
Ivy now has a renewed independence and can safely “climb” her stairs in the comfort of her new chair lift.

Ivy is able to be home for the holidays this year because of compassionate people like you. We can’t thank you enough for your support and love for others.

Your gift makes it possible for people like Ivy to age in their own home, safely and with dignity.
